DHS has a clear vision: to be a centre of excellence in health care. We aim high and we have achieved aged care accreditation since 1997. That means we are recognised by the Federal Government for providing high standard facilities and services. Our hostel was opened in 1994 and has recently been refurbished. The single rooms are centrally heated and cooled and have pleasant ensuite bathrooms. We have electric beds which can be adjusted for resident comfort and the rooms feature built in robes. Residents are encouraged and helped to bring small items of furniture and personal belongings such as quilts and doona covers photos paintings and ornaments to help them settle in and feel at home. We are happy to help with cleaning and arranging these personal belongings. We know small things matter. Large screen televisions are available in the nursing home and hostel in one of the lounge rooms while other areas are reserved for quiet reading conversation and card playing. Meals are cooked fresh on site and served in our tastefully furnished dining rooms with residents sitting with companions of their choice on tables for four. Residents’ likes and dislikes including cultural preferences are considered at every meal time and there is always a choice on the menu. In addition we like to hold culinary theme days with special event catering.Morning and afternoon teas are delivered to residents and tea stations are available for those who wish to help themselves to drinks snacks or fresh fruit. It is no idle boast that our chef produces among the best fresh scones in country Victoria!
