The Lower Burdekin Home for the Aged at Ayr is located on Chippendale Street.With the Ayr Medical facilities adjacent to the home visiting Medical Practioners are able to continue treating their patients by visiting the residents here at the Ayr facility. With the home adjacent to the Ambulance Station and 500m from the Ayr Hospital further intensive medical treatment is easily accessible and residents are able to be effortlessly transferred to the Townsville General Hospital should the need arise for specialist medical treatment. In the event of an emergency transfer by helicopter to Townsville is arranged if it is clinically indicated for further intensive management of the patient. The Ayr Facility was the result of a group of motivated individuals from the local community that formulated a society and commenced a mammoth undertaking of establishing a home for the aged. Today nearly 40 years have passed and the founding society can be proud of what they have achieved together with the Community’s strong support.
